Prof. Benzhong Tang, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, CUHK-Shenzhen was awarded the Nano Today Award 2021 at the 7th Nano Today Conference taking place on November 16, 2021. The award is in recognition of his pioneering research on nanostructured materials. Dean Tang is the first scientist in the Chinese academic sector to receive the Award since its establishment.

Established by Elsevier in 2005, the Nano Today Award is presented every two years to recognize distinguished contributors to the field of nanostructured materials. Past recipients include scientists from world-renowned universities and research centres such as Northwestern University, Stanford University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of California, Santa Barbara and Nanotechnology Research Center Karlsruhe.

Biography

Professor Benzhong Tang obtained his bachelor's degree and doctor's degree from South China University of Technology and Kyoto University in Japan in 1982 and 1988 respectively. He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Toronto in Canada from 1989 to 1994 and served as a senior researcher at Neos company. He joined the Hong Kong University of science and technology in 1994 to engage in academic research and was promoted to chair professor in 2008. In 2021, Professor Tang joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) as the dean of School of Science and Engineering.

Professor Tang is the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences of developing countries, the Asia-Pacific Academy of Materials, fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Professor Tang has published more than 1600 scientific papers, cited more than 130000 times, and the h index is 163. Since 2014, Professor Tang has been continuously selected as a highly cited scientist in the fields of chemistry and material science. Professor Tang has won many honors and awards, such as the first prize of National Natural Science (2017), Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award (2017), Croucher Advanced Research Achievement Award (2007), etc. Professor Tang is currently the editor-in-chief of Aggregate magazine, published by WILEY.
