Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Environmental Materials and Renewable Energy
In September 2020, President Xi Jinping announced at the UN General Assembly that " aim to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060." The construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system is the key to achieve the "dual carbon" goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, as well as an important part to promote the energy structure optimization in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the way for building a green, intelligent, energy-saving and low-carbon ShenZhen City.
Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Environmental Materials and Renewable Energy was established in March 2021. Prof. Zou Zhigang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of World Academy of Sciences and ShenZhen outstanding talent, is the director of this Laboratory. The purpose of the key laboratory is to develop new semiconductor materials for achieving high solar energy conversion efficiency and to achieve the large-scale effective utilization of hydrogen energy based on the development of distributed solar water splitting device integrated with artificial intelligence technology. This key laboratory has 1 academician of the National Academy of Sciences, 3 chief experts of key projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 1 Outstanding Talent of Guangdong Province, and 6 talents of Shenzhen Peacock Project.
