SME Ranks Top Four in China’s Mainland for Number of Papers Published in Top Five Economics Journals
In recent years, the number of research papers produced by universities and institutions in China’s mainland has increased year after year, and they now account for a growing share of the world stage. The School of Management and Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is ranked among the top four universities and institutions in China (mainland) in terms of the total number of papers published in the top five economics journals since 1949. Looking at 2021 alone, SME's professors topped the annual list with four publications in these leading journals.
By and large, the publishing cycle for articles in economics and finance is relatively lengthy. It is never simple for scholars in this discipline to produce articles of assured high quality, and it is much more difficult to maintain a high output rate. The five leading economics journals— American Economic Review (excluding P&P), Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, and Econometrica—are the super "hard currency" of the economics academic world. Almost every economist is eager to contribute their perspectives and expertise to these journals. According to the Xueshuo Platform, there are 28 universities and research institutions in Chinese mainland that have published articles in the top five journals of economics in the 72 years from 1949 to 2021.
It's worth noting that eight papers in this category were published in the top five journals in 2021, in which CUHK-Shenzhen School of Management and Economics led the list with four publications, accounting for about half of the total.
The four articles and their authors are: "Banking Crises without Panics"( Xiong Wei), "Property Rights, Land Misallocation, and Agricultural Efficiency in China" (Wang Yongxiang); "Generalized Local-to-Unity Models" (Dou Liyu), and "China's Model of Managing the Financial System" (Xiong Wei).
