Naming Ceremony of LEE Yin Yee Building Held at CUHK-Shenzhen
On 8th September, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) hosted a naming ceremony, officially designating Research Building A as the "LEE Yin Yee Building."
In attendance at the ceremony were Weizhong Qin, Deputy Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Shenzhen; Beifang Dai, former Chairman of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and current President of the Shenzhen Charity Federation; Hongbo Zheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee; Yihuan Wu, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen CPPCC; Shengyuan Gao, Secretary-General and Director of the General Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government; Yangsheng Xu, President of CUHK-Shenzhen and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Yin Yee Lee, Chairman of the Xinyi Holdings Group; and Shing Put Lee, Representative of the National People's Congress, standing committee member of the Guangdong Provincial CPPCC, and Chairman of Xinyi Energy Holdings Limited.

Mr. Lee Yin Yee has long distinguished himself as an entrepreneur and philanthropist dedicated to public welfare and social advancement. He established the LEE Yin Yee Education Foundation as early as 1993, focusing on education grants and scholarships. To express gratitude for Mr. LEE's generous contribution to the University's development and support for financially disadvantaged but outstanding students, CUHK-Shenzhen has elected to name the research building adjacent to Longxiang Boulevard in his honour.
In his address, President Yangsheng Xu conveyed heartfelt thanks to Mr. Lee for his longstanding support of CUHK-Shenzhen. He articulated, "Mr. Lee's unwavering commitment to philanthropy over the decades is truly commendable. The naming of the LEE Yin Yee Building not only perpetuates his philanthropic spirit but also sows the seeds of benevolence and gratitude amongst our faculty and students. We shall strive to live up to the expectations vested in us, continually advancing CUHK-Shenzhen to new pinnacles of achievement."

Shing Put Lee, in his eloquent remarks, extended his gratitude for the opportunity granted to Xinyi to contribute to CUHK-Shenzhen. He proclaimed, "Education is a cornerstone for the nation's development. Xinyi Group prioritises support for educational endeavours, a sentiment that aligns with Shenzhen's strategy to elevate education as a key element in its long-term vision. High-quality education is the bedrock upon which Shenzhen’s PDA mission thrives (PDA: a Pilot Demonstration Area of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics). Under the leadership of the municipal party committee and government, I am convinced that there will be an increasing number of individuals and entities eager to back the University's growth, bolster education, and engage in charitable activities. As a result, CUHK-Shenzhen will surely thrive and continue to improve, and Shenzhen's various undertakings will flourish and prosper."

Mr. Shing Put Lee Delivers His Address
Mr. Yin Yee Lee, founder and Chairman of Xinyi Glass Holdings Limited, has been a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC for twenty years and is an Honorary Citizen of Shenzhen. In 2023, he was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Mr. Lee's charity initiatives have been consistent for 30 years, distributing over 72 million yuan in educational grants, extending aid to more than 2,000 financially-challenged students, and benefiting over 50,000 educators and students. Since its establishment, Xinyi Group has donated more than 2.5 billion yuan in total, building over 80 Hope Schools across the country. At the ceremony, Mr. Beifang Dai of the Shenzhen Charity Federation conferred upon Mr. Lee a Certificate of Philanthropic Honour, recognizing his substantial contribution to philanthropy in Shenzhen.
