Workshops | 2024 Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau University Student Drama Festival
This weekend, we will present four workshops that focus on physical theatre training, insightful scriptwriting, creative puppet making, and fun theatre games. You are welcome to come and experience the charms of drama from different perspectives.

Introduction
We will start with physical training and engage in theatre exercises that focus on the body to experience its charm. This workshop will include training sessions and simple creative exercises.

Drama Director and Co-founder of Shengbai Theater
Studied under Professor Wu Xi from the Acting Department of Shenzhen University, and furthered his studies at the Odin Teatret in Denmark and the Philippe Gaulier Clown School in France.
Commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Festival for the work Flight of Fishes @ HK. He has collaborated with the influential youth cultural and social platform - “Polaris Youth” in recent years to develop his philosophy of youth community drama through “YESGO Action” programme. He is one of the most sought-after mentors in the community dramas (known as “amateur drama” in Chinese mainland in Guangdong Province region over the past decade.
Directed plays such as Hello, Sir, Naughty Nezha, and Fight of Fishes series, winning the Youth Drama Individual Award at the Guangzhou Drama Art Center‘s Youth Drama Competition for three consecutive years. Directed the children’s play The Shy Little Cow, which won the Outstanding Play Award at the First National Picture Book Drama Competition, and the first self-produced play The Nutcracker at the Xinghai Concert Hall.
Created the large-scale interdisciplinary art parade - Walk in Flower Market which was invited to the Polaris Youth Interesting People Conference and selected for the Shekou Drama Festival. Many of his works have been selected for national performances at the Guangzhou Arts Festival, Nanshan Arts Festival and Shenzhen Fringe Festival.

Introduction
What's a comedy, really? What do playwrights mean when they say that the success of a comedy hinges on timing and restraint? This workshop will dissect the definition of comedy and examples from comedies that have garnered great successess and help students understand the importance of restraint in writing comedy.
HE Wei
Assistant Professor (Teaching) at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University, with research interests in Creative Writing (Fiction), scriptwriting, playwriting, and Contemporary Theatre Creation.

Introduction
This workshop will lead everyone to understand modern puppetry, experience the operation of modern puppets, and unleash their imagination by creating creative puppets. Through the introduction and learning of object theatre, participants will experience the charm of object theatre on the spot.

Mao Haipeng
Mao Haipeng is a drama teacher, young director, actor and member of the Longgang District Dramatists Association. He is also the head of SZHS(HSC) Student Theatre Group. He holds a bachelor's degree in puppetry from Shanghai Theatre Academy and a master’s degree from University College London, with a focus on research in the theatre market. He was also the former bass section leader of the Shanghai Rainbow Chamber Singers.

Introduction
What is “setting” in the theatre? How can conflicts be created? If “a play is made by a group of people,” why have we traditionally focused on the the protagonist during rehearsals? In this workshop, we can explore more possibilities and understand the meaning of “there are no small roles, only small actors.”

Charles Chan kun chung
Graduated from the School of Drama of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor’s degree (Honors) of Fine Arts (majoring in Acting). Founded Hong Kong Chivalry Creative Theater in 2008 and launched six original plays within two years, including Past·Past, Knock Her Down, Edo Unrivaled, Vite Viola, My Scientist Dad, and I Love Football. These works have been all recognized by the Hong Kong theatre industry. He is actively involved in stage art creations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau region, serving as an artistic director, director, and playwright. He has participated in numerous professional stage and touring performances and has led workshops on drama, acting, and physicality and other subjects at various theatre groups and universities, serving as an artistic advisor for several youth drama art programmes.
Since 2017, he has been invited to serve as the Artistic Director of Macau Frost Ice Snow Creative Experimental Theatre. His works include Butterfly Lovers: Endless Regrets, To the Dream of a Blooming Oak with Youth, I Love Bowling, and Riding the Waves of Change. The production April Showers Bring May Flowers has won numerous awards.
Sileas Ko weng si
Executive Director and Resident Actor of the Macau Frost Ice Snow Creative Experimental Theatre. She graduated from the Department of Sociology at the University of Macau. In 2019, she was admitted into School of Drama of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, but did not pursue the studies. She served as the President of the Drama Society of the University of Macau for Student Union for the academic year 2018-2019. She has extensive experience in stage performance and administrative production, having participated in various musicals and dramas. She also has rich experience in drama, dance, and hosting. She has held multiple roles in projects, including actor, producer, assistant producer, public relations, and backstage management.
