Speaker Profile:
John Edward Hopcroft is Professor Emeritus in Computer Science at Cornell University, Visiting Chair Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Peking University. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1964 in electrical engineering from Stanford University, he spent three years on the faculty of Princeton University and then joined the Cornell faculty in 1967. There he served as Chairman of Computer Science and Dean of Engineering.
John's research centers on theoretical aspects of computing, especially analysis of algorithms, automata theory, and graph algorithms. He is recognized as a pioneer in computer science research. In 1986, John was honored with the Turing Award, seen as the Nobel Prize in computer science.
