Intelligent-Class-Aided Teaching Innovation (ICATI) of In Dialogue with Nature
GFN1000 In Dialogue with Nature is a core course to enhance undergraduates’ critical and creative minds. During the teaching over eight years, we noticed that it is hard for students to understand the original English classic texts in sufficient depth because of language barriers and lack of background knowledge, which hinder their initiatives. Such challenges for students make it difficult for instructors to guide students’ discussion effectively. To solve such problems in learning and teaching, ICATI (“Intelligent-class-aided Teaching Innovation”) proposed in this project aims to develop a comprehensive platform for both students and instructors. The intelligent class for students will be designed to help them to overcome the language barriers and enrich their background knowledge with informative resource so that they can link texts with daily life and initiate active reflection on contemporary issues to appreciate the value of the course. As a result, students’ initiatives and interests in critical thinking will be enhanced. ICATI provides instructors with well-designed teaching activities to encourage the engagement of students in the course. ICATI is flexible and sustainable with a user-oriented design so that it will be easy to use and update, which is also compatible with all text-based courses in higher education.
